Mid Alma
Mid Alma is a 1,991-hectare roar block on the Molesworth Station and Clarence grazing lease, sitting in the middle reaches of the Alma drainage in inland Marlborough. Elevations run from 966 m to 1,882 m with a median of 1,203 m — country that sits right around the bushline.
Fifty-one per cent of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 15% is alpine, so this is mostly above the bushline tops country with a bush-edge fringe on the lower margins. The block leans west-facing, with strong west and north-west aspects catching afternoon sun and the nor-wester.
The permit covers red deer and chamois. Reds work the bush-edge band and head-of-catchment gullies, chamois the open tops and ridge systems above.

What you can hunt here
This is a roar — the red deer roar peaks from late March into April, and competition for the block is highest then.
Access & getting there
Air access is not permitted on Mid Alma, and WARO is not permitted either, so the block is walk-in country only. Access runs from the legal entry points on the Molesworth system.
No DOC huts sit within the block, so this is a fly-camp job. The compact size means a single well-positioned camp covers most of the country. Carry a fly or tent and confirm Molesworth access status before leaving.
