Dog Stream
Dog Stream is a 4,032-hectare roar block on the Molesworth Station and Clarence grazing lease, in the inland Marlborough high country. Elevations run from 949 m to 2,057 m with a median of 1,314 m, putting the bulk of the block above the bushline.
Sixty-three per cent of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 30% is alpine, so this is mostly above the bushline tops country with broad tussock faces and rocky upper basins. The block leans south-east, with strong south-east, east and south aspects that hold animals on shaded sidles.
The permit covers red deer and chamois. The high open country suits chamois work, while reds hold the lower bush fringes and head-of-catchment basins through the roar.

What you can hunt here
This is a roar — the red deer roar peaks from late March into April, and competition for the block is highest then.
Access & getting there
Air access is not permitted on Dog Stream, but WARO is permitted — so be aware that commercial recovery helicopters may be active over the upper faces during the season. Hunters walk in from the legal access points on the Molesworth side.
No DOC huts sit within the block, so plan to fly camp. The open tops mean tussock pitches and stream-side flats are your camp options. Carry a fly or tent and confirm Molesworth access status before leaving.
