The block is a mix of bush and tops, with about 11% of the country above the 1,200 m bushline and very little true alpine ground. The dominant aspect is south-east, keeping the upper bush faces cool through the day.
It holds red deer, tahr and chamois, with the deer working through the bush and the alpine species confined to the limited high country at the head of the catchment.
