The block holds red deer, tahr and chamois, spread between the bush, the bluffs and the alpine fringe.

Access & getting there

Air access is not permitted on this block, so parties are committed to a walk-in. WARO is permitted, so the country sees commercial helicopter pressure outside the ballot period.

Roaring Billy Hut sits on the block in the Haast, Paringa and Moeraki rivers area, with heating, mattresses, a non-flush toilet and water from the stream. It's not bookable, so plan around the chance the hut is occupied and carry a tent as backup.
