Block 18 - Hope River is a 2,006 ha balloted roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area. Elevations run from 19 m up to 969 m, with a median of 344 m.

This is lowland and foothill country — none of the block sits above the bushline. Expect heavy West Coast bush, river flats and bluffy lower spurs typical of South Westland. Slopes lean north on the dominant aspect, giving warmer afternoon faces.

The block carries red deer, tahr and wild goat on the permit. Reds are the realistic recreational quarry through the timber; tahr are listed for the wider permit area but the country sits below their usual range on this block.

Access & getting there
