Real Kiwi Hunting

Real Kiwi Hunting is a Fairlie-based operation in South Canterbury offering guided big-game hunts across the Southern Alps and surrounding high country. Mike Biemond runs both free-range alpine hunts for tahr and chamois and trophy hunts for red stag, fallow buck, elk and sambar on private land. The South Canterbury location places the outfit within striking distance of some of New Zealand's most productive chamois and tahr country east of the main divide.

Packages are priced in USD and run from multi-day alpine doubles targeting tahr and chamois together through to extended trophy stag hunts graded on antler size. Elk and sambar options are also available. Drop camps are offered for hunters who prefer a more self-sufficient backcountry experience.

Mike markets the operation under the Real Kiwi Hunting brand but also runs a sister brand, Mountain Trout Outfitters, covering fly fishing on South Canterbury's braided rivers. Hunters looking to combine a week of big game with world-class trout fishing will find the two offerings complement each other well from the same South Island base.
