Tryphena Scenic Reserve is a 428 ha block at the southern end of Great Barrier Island (Aotea) in the Hauraki Gulf. Elevations run from 15 m up to 396 m with a median of 139 m, placing the reserve in lowland to foothill island bush.

Aspect leans north, with strong shares facing north, north-east and east — warm, sunny coastal-edge faces. The block carries subtropical island bush typical of southern Aotea, with regenerating broadleaf and kanuka cover.

Wild pig is the only listed species, in line with the rest of Great Barrier.

Air access is permitted on the block. There are no DOC huts or campsites listed inside the reserve, though other facilities are available elsewhere on Great Barrier. Reaching the island requires ferry or flight from Auckland, with Tryphena at the southern end being a common arrival point.
