Snowdon Forest and Mavora Park Conservation Areas including adjacent PCL is an 86,999-hectare hunting block in the Takitimu/Snowdon/Mavora/Eyre permit area in northern Southland. Elevations run from about 231 m to 2,083 m, with a median around 793 m.
The country here is a mix of bush and tops, with around 5% of the ground in true alpine terrain above 1,500 m and slopes that lean west. These ranges sit east of Te Anau and carry the classic Southland mix of beech valleys feeding up into tussock tops.
The block carries red deer, fallow deer, tahr, chamois and wild pig. Bush-edge for deer and broken tops for the alpine game makes for a versatile permit.

Access & getting there
Helicopter access is permitted on Snowdon Forest & Mavora Park, useful for getting into country that would otherwise be a long valley walk from the nearest road. WARO is also permitted, so expect commercial helicopter activity at times.
Six DOC huts serve the block, including Careys Hut, Forks Hut and Boundary Hut. Mavora Lakes Campsite is also recorded inside the block. Check current conditions with DOC before you go.
