Okiwi Bay Scenic Reserve
Okiwi Bay Scenic Reserve is a small 121 ha public hunting block in the South Marlborough permit area, administered under Canterbury. Elevations run from 10 m at sea level up to 374 m, with a median of 149 m.
This is coastal lowland country — well below the bushline, with no alpine ground at all. The block is small, low and warm, with slopes leaning east-facing onto the coast, carrying typical inland-Kaikoura bush and scrub cover.
The species mix is red deer, chamois, wild goat and wild pig. At this size and elevation Okiwi Bay is a day-hunt option rather than a destination block, with goats and pigs the most realistic species for the lower coastal cover.
