North Waihao
North Waihao is a compact 598-hectare block in the South Canterbury downs, west of the Waihao River. Elevations range from 143 m to 551 m with a median of just 265 m — lowland and foothill country, well below the bushline. None of the block sits above the 1,200 m mark.
The block leans south-west-facing, with a relatively even spread across south-west, north-east, south-east, north-west and other aspects — small, broken country rather than one big face. Expect rough farm-edge bush, scrub gullies and pasture margins.
Four species are listed: red deer, wild goat, wild pig and wallaby. Country like this suits short walk-in stalks at first and last light rather than multi-day missions.
