Moke Creek West Branch
Moke Creek West Branch is a 1,298 ha block in the Mount Creighton permit area, in the hill country west of Lake Wakatipu. Elevations climb from 640 m on the lower faces to 1,816 m on the tops, with a median of 1,181 m. Forty-seven per cent of the country sits above the 1,200 m bushline, with 10% in true alpine ground.
This is a mix of bush and tops, with beech in the lower drainage and tussock and scrub on the higher ridges. The block leans north-facing, putting most of the slopes in good sun and giving warm bedding faces through the morning.
Game on the permit is red deer, fallow deer, chamois and wild goat. The north-facing aspect combined with bush-edge feeding country makes it useful for early-morning glassing trips.
