Lochiel
Lochiel is a Canterbury block of roughly 4,252 hectares. Elevations run from about 434 m up to 1,599 m, with a median of 960 m, so this is mid-altitude country that brushes against the bushline along its higher faces.
With 13% of sampled ground above the 1,200 m bushline, the block is mostly bush and scrub with a fringe of tops. Slopes lean predominantly east, with strong shares of south-east, north-east and north faces, giving a spread of sunlit and shaded sidles to work through.
Game on the permit includes red deer, chamois, wild goat and wild pig. The size of the block gives room for multi-day trips and a choice of country.

Lochiel is also flagged as a wild animal recovery operations (WARO) zone, so commercial helicopter activity may overlap with hunters on the ground. Check current WARO status before heading in.
