Fiordland National Park including adjacent PCL (excludes Wapiti Area) is a 1,008,000-hectare block in Southland. This is the rest of Fiordland outside the Specially Protected Area set aside for wapiti — vast bush-clad country, fjords cutting in from the coast, and a long alpine spine on the inland side.
Elevations run from about 0 m up to 2,716 m, with a median of 580 m. Around 10% of the country sits above the 1,200 m bushline, leaving the rest as bush and lower faces. The dominant aspect is west-facing, giving a mix of bush gullies and open faces once you push above the scrub line.
Game on the permit includes red deer, fallow deer, wapiti, chamois and wild pig. Wapiti are listed because the Fiordland herd has dispersed beyond the Specially Protected Area, but the formal wapiti ballot blocks are excluded from this permit.

Access & getting there
This is well-served by DOC huts — 32 recorded shelters inside the block — so hunters can move between basins and faces over a longer trip. There are also 12 formal campsites on the block.
Air access is open across this country, and much of Fiordland is practically only reachable by helicopter or float plane. The block is also flagged for wild animal recovery operations (WARO), so other parties may be working the country from helicopters — check current activity before heading in.

You need a DOC hunting permit to hunt this block. It is classed as a Ordinary block in the Fiordland National Park permit area, with a hunting status of Permitted.
Commercial wild-animal recovery (WARO) operates over this area — expect helicopter activity and pressured game.
This block sits within a DOC air-access zone — fly-in hunting and helicopter drop-offs may be permitted.
A DOC hunting permit is required. The block is classed as an ordinary block with hunting permitted, so there is no ballot or seasonal restriction to work around.
