17 - Frieda Creek

Balloted Roar block1,231 haPermit: Permitted

Block 17 - Frieda Creek is a 1,231 ha balloted roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area — one of the smaller blocks on the South Westland ballot. Elevations run from 31 m up to 987 m, with a median of 472 m.

This is lowland and foothill country — none of the block sits above the bushline. Expect heavy West Coast bush and steep lower spurs in a compact catchment. Slopes lean north-east on the dominant aspect, so the block catches morning sun on the rising faces.

The block carries red deer and tahr. Reds are the realistic recreational quarry through the timber; tahr are listed for the wider permit area but the country sits below their usual range on this block.
