Balloted Roar block2,332 haPermit: Permitted

Block 16 - Callery River is a 2,332 ha balloted roar block in the South Westland - Weheka permit area. Elevations run from sea level up to 930 m, with a median of 265 m.

This is lowland and foothill country — none of the block sits above the bushline. Expect heavy West Coast bush, river flats and bluffy spurs typical of this stretch of coast. Slopes lean south-west on the dominant aspect, so the block carries cooler, shaded faces for much of the day.

The block carries red deer and tahr. Reds are the realistic recreational quarry through the timber; tahr are listed for the wider permit area but the country sits below their usual range on this block.
