Wilderness Trophy Hunting New Zealand
Hokitika · 82 Bealey St, Hokitika 7810
Wilderness Trophy Hunting New Zealand is Dave Jellie's West Coast-based free-range outfitting operation, running guided hunts from Hokitika for Himalayan tahr, alpine chamois, red stag, fallow deer, sika, rusa and small game. The West Coast location is unusual among trophy operations — most South Island outfitters base themselves in Canterbury or Otago — but it gives direct access to the western face of the Southern Alps, where tahr and chamois numbers can be exceptional and the hunting pressure is lower than on the eastern approach.
All of Dave's wilderness hunts are 100% free-range and fair-chase, with no high-fence or farm-bred animals. Hunts range from specialised alpine doubles targeting tahr and chamois on the same trip through to red stag and fallow deer packages on western South Island country. Meat hunts are also available for hunters after a more accessible, food-focused experience.
Hokitika is serviced by Air New Zealand flights from Christchurch, making the West Coast straightforward to reach despite its remote feel. Dave's camps are set up for genuine wilderness immersion — this is not a lodge-based operation — and the hunting country around the upper Grey and Hokitika catchments delivers the kind of backcountry experience that differentiates New Zealand from most international hunting destinations.
