Crux Outfitters
Queenstown · 606 Peninsula Rd, Kelvin Heights, Queenstown
Crux Outfitters is Cameron Macdonald's small Kiwi-owned hunting operation based at Kelvin Heights, Queenstown. Cam runs both free-range wilderness hunts and estate trophy hunts targeting red stag, fallow buck, elk, tahr and chamois, with a focus on quality experiences rather than volume. The business holds an "extremely large concession on crown land" covering both east and west sides of the Southern Alps — an unusual asset that gives access to a wide variety of terrain from a single permit.
Being based in Queenstown means Crux Outfitters benefits from the region's international airport and its status as New Zealand's most visited adventure tourism hub. Non-hunting partners are well accommodated in Queenstown, and the Peninsula Road address — on the shores of Lake Wakatipu — is one of the more scenic spots in New Zealand from which to run a guiding business.
Crux is clearly positioned as a boutique operation: small team, personal service, no compromise on the quality of the hunting experience. The name itself — "crux" meaning the decisive or most important point — reflects the philosophy of finding the best possible terrain and the most demanding sporting challenge for each client.
