Waipati
Waipati is a 272 ha Balloted Roar block in the Catlins permit area, on the southern Otago coast. Elevations run from sea level to 246 m, with a median of 27 m — almost entirely coastal lowland country with no bushline.
This is sea-level Catlins coastal forest, leaning south — dense podocarp-broadleaf bush coming down to the coast on small ridges and stream gullies. Country is short and stalks are close-range. Expect on-shore weather and salt-air conditions.
Game on the permit is red deer, fallow deer and wild pig. The Catlins reds and fallow in mature coastal bush are the drawcard, and a balloted roar block at this scale gives a party the country largely to themselves.
