Trotters Gorge
Trotters Gorge is a small 153 ha RHA in the Coastal Otago north of the Catlins permit area, in the gorge country north of Dunedin. Elevations run from 50 m to 274 m, with a median of 151 m — lowland coastal foothill country with no bushline.
This is short steep-sided gorge country, leaning east — bluffs and short open faces between regenerating bush and scrub. The aspect catches morning sun and the country is small enough to cover on foot in a day.
Game on the permit is fallow deer, wild goat and wild pig. The gorge bluffs are classic goat country and the bush margins hold pigs and the occasional fallow.
