Tongariro National Park (Part2)
Tongariro National Park (Part2) covers a vast 78,679 ha section of the volcanic plateau of Tongariro National Park. This is high-elevation country east of the main road network, with tussock, scoria and scree giving way to bush on the lower edges. Elevations run from about 492 m up to 1322 m, with a median sample around 826 m.
The block tops out near the bushline, so hunting is mostly through bush and gully country with occasional open faces high up.
Game on the permit includes red deer, sika and wild pig. Sika are the prized animal across the wider Pureora and central plateau country, and adjacent blocks carry strong populations. The scale of the block lets parties spread out and work several drainages over a longer trip.
