Taumatatawhero Ecological Area
Taumatatawhero Ecological Area is a 414 ha ecological area in the western King Country. The country is lowland to foothill country, broken by gully systems, regenerating bush and limestone outcrops typical of the inland Waikato. Elevations run from about 112 m up to 288 m, with a median sample around 225 m.
The block sits below the bushline, so this is hunting through bush, gully heads and sidles rather than open tops.
Game on the permit includes red deer, wild goat and wild pig. With its modest size, this suits a short, focused stalk rather than a multi-day trip.
