Super Shed

Roar1,965 haPermit: Restricted

Super Shed is a 1,965 ha public hunting block on Molesworth Station and the Clarence grazing lease, administered under Canterbury. Elevations run from 834 m on the valley floor up to 1,605 m on the tops, with a median of 978 m.

This is mostly a mix of bush and tops country — around 13% of the ground sits above the bushline, with no significant true alpine ground. The block carries the dry tussock and shrubland typical of inland Marlborough high country, with slopes leaning south-west — the cooler shaded afternoon faces.

The species mix is red deer, chamois and wild pig. Super Shed is a Roar block, so it sits specifically inside the autumn red deer rut programme — the block name and structure are built around that period rather than year-round access.

What you can hunt here

This is a roar — the red deer roar peaks from late March into April, and competition for the block is highest then.

Access & getting there

Air access is not permitted on Super Shed, so all hunting here is foot-based. WARO is not permitted either, which keeps the block free of commercial helicopter hunting pressure during the roar.

There are no huts or campsites inside the block. Parties hunting here will be carrying a tent or basing out of facilities outside the block.

Permits & rules

You need a DOC hunting permit to hunt this block. It is classed as a Roar block in the Molesworth Station and Clarence grazing lease permit area, with a hunting status of Restricted.

A DOC hunting permit is required, and Super Shed is a Roar block with a Restricted status — access is run as a ballot for the roar period on Molesworth Station and the Clarence grazing lease, with successful hunters allocated a block and dates. Apply through the DOC ballot process well before the roar; permits are not issued on the normal Canterbury non-ballot system for this block.

1080 & pesticide status

No current, planned or proposed pesticide operations intersect this block in our data. Always confirm with DOC before taking a dog in.
