Silverpeaks

RHA3,494 haPermit: Permitted

Silverpeaks is a 3,494 ha RHA in the Coastal Otago north of the Catlins permit area, in the hills inland of Dunedin. Elevations run from 155 m to 767 m, with a median of 460 m — lowland / foothill country with no bushline.

This is classic Otago hill country — manuka and beech scrub, tussock ridges, gully systems and short open faces. The block leans south-east, so the morning sun catches it cleanly. Country is well within walking distance of Dunedin and a popular tramping destination, so expect to share the tracks with non-hunters.

Game on the permit is red deer, wild goat and wild pig. The low elevation and short tracks make this a good introduction to Otago public-land hunting.
