Serpentine

RHA745 haPermit: Permitted

Serpentine is a 745 ha RHA in the Central Otago and The Remarkables permit area. Elevations run from 805 m to 1,170 m, with a median of 1,060 m. None of the block crosses the 1,200 m bushline, so this is mid-elevation tussock country rather than tops or bush.

This is rolling Central Otago tussock and scrub country, leaning north-west. Slopes catch afternoon sun and the long sight lines make it a glassing-and-stalking block rather than a bush-stalking one. Country is small enough to cover on foot through a long weekend.

Game on the permit is red deer, wild goat and wild pig. The open tussock makes deer and goats relatively findable, and pigs work the gully cover.
