Lochinvar

Ordinary13,108 haPermit: Permitted

Lochinvar is a 13,108 ha public hunting block in Lochinvar Forest Conservation Area, Canterbury. The block is broken into several pieces. Elevations run from around 539 m on the valley floors up to 2,005 m on the tops, with a median of about 1,192 m.

The block works as a mix of bush and tops — roughly 49% of the ground sits above the 1,200 m bushline, and about 16% pushes into true alpine country above 1,500 m. Slopes lean west, which puts the dominant faces in afternoon sun and gives morning glassing on the opposite aspects.

The species list is red deer, chamois and wild pig. Lochinvar country holds reds through the beech and river flats, chamois on the upper faces and bluffs, and pigs through the scrub margins lower down.
