Kokomoka Forest
Kokomoka Forest is a 4,277-hectare block in the Whirinaki / Rangitaiki permit area, sitting in the inland Hawke's Bay country on the Whirinaki side of the central North Island plateau. Elevations run from 659 m to 978 m with a median of 786 m, putting the block in hill country country well below the bushline.
The block faces predominantly east, with a useful spread of west, south-west and south-east aspects. Expect podocarp-broadleaf and beech bush over rolling ridges and gully systems characteristic of the Whirinaki country.
The block carries red deer, sika and wild pig — sika in this country are a continuation of the wider central North Island herd.
