Kea Spur

Ordinary139 haPermit: Permitted

Kea Spur is a compact 139 ha public hunting block in the Canterbury permit area. Elevations run from 673 m at the bottom to 1,274 m on the tops, with a median of 928 m.

This is a small block of mid-elevation hill country, sitting mostly in the bush band — only about 2% of the ground touches the bushline at 1,200 m, and there's no true alpine ground. Slopes lean east, so the block carries sunny morning faces for glassing.

The species mix is red deer, tahr and chamois. At this size Kea Spur is a short-trip or single-day option rather than a destination block, and the alpine species reflect its position on the edge of bigger country.
