Hossack
Hossack is a Canterbury block of roughly 5,473 hectares, made up of more than one polygon. Elevations run from about 554 m up to 1,686 m, with a median of 1,075 m, so this is mid-altitude country that straddles the 1,200 m bushline.
With 33% of sampled ground above the bushline and 5% in true alpine country above 1,500 m, this is a mix of bush and tops. Slopes lean predominantly south-east, with significant south, east and west shares as well, giving a spread of shaded faces, sunlit sidles and basin systems to work.
Game on the permit includes red deer, chamois and wild pig. The size of the block gives room for multi-day trips and a choice of country.

Hossack is also flagged as a wild animal recovery operations (WARO) zone, so commercial helicopter activity may overlap with hunters on the ground. Check current WARO status before heading in.
