Clyde - Lawrence
Clyde - Lawrence is a 22,035 ha public hunting block in Canterbury, sitting in the Rangitata and Rakaia rivers area. Elevations run from around 705 m on the valley floors up to 2,757 m on the high tops, with a median of about 1,648 m.
This is predominantly alpine country — around 84% of the block sits above the 1,200 m bushline and 63% pushes into true alpine country above 1,500 m. Slopes lean south-east, giving cool shaded morning faces and a balance of aspects for working tops, bluffs and head basins through the day.
The species list is red deer, tahr and chamois. The combination of size, altitude and species mix makes Clyde - Lawrence a serious tahr and chamois option alongside reds in the lower beech and scrub margins.

What you can hunt here
Access & getting there
Both fixed-wing and helicopter air access are permitted, which matters on a block this size — getting into the head basins on foot is a long commitment, and charter drops let parties focus their time on country that holds animals. WARO is also permitted, so commercial helicopter operators may be working the block.
Lawrence Hut sits in the Rangitata and Rakaia rivers area within the block. It has heating, mattresses, a non-flush toilet and tap water (not treated — boil before use). Lawrence Bivvy is also in the block and provides mattresses, a non-flush toilet and stream water. Neither is bookable. With two structures covering 22,000-plus hectares, most parties will need to fly camp or carry a tent to hunt country away from the hut and bivvy.
