Carlyle
Carlyle is a 4,182 ha public hunting block in Lake Sumner Forest Park, in the Canterbury permit area. Elevations run from 430 m on the valley floors to 1,414 m on the tops, with a median of 960 m.
This is largely a mix of bush and tops country, with around 11% of the ground sitting above the bushline and the bulk of the block in beech-clad valleys and faces below. Slopes lean east, giving sunny morning faces for glassing and feeding country in the bush edges and clearings.
The species mix is red deer, chamois and wild pig. Carlyle is a manageable block size and elevation that suits parties wanting bush hunting for reds with the option to get into open ground on the higher faces.
