Bunkers
Bunkers is a small 1,886-hectare ballot block on Molesworth Station and the Clarence grazing lease, in inland Canterbury near the Clarence River. Elevations run from 733 m to 1,535 m with a median of 1,035 m. Only 17% of the country sits above the 1,200 m bushline and none of it is alpine, so this is foothill country — open faces, tussock and matagouri terraces rather than high tops.
The block leans south-east-facing, with aspects fairly evenly spread but a slight bias to shaded sidles. Country like this rewards patient glassing of the warm faces at first and last light.
Three species are listed here: red deer, chamois and wild pig. The compact size keeps party numbers low and the country huntable on foot.
