Southern Lakes Safaris operates out of Lake Hawea in Central Otago, running both heli-accessed backcountry hunts on public-land DOC concessions and front-country hunts from lodge accommodation near Wanaka. The concession footprint covers Aoraki/Mt Cook, Geraldine, North Canterbury, Twizel, Central Otago, Te Anau, Wakatipu and South Westland.
Primary species are red deer, fallow, chamois and Himalayan tahr, taken through spot-and-stalk in alpine and bush-edge country. Guides hold avalanche qualifications and the outfit takes a range of fitness levels, from multi-day backcountry trips into the tops to lodge-based hunts with helicopter day flights.
