Westwood - Blue Mountains

RHA553 haPermit: Restricted

Westwood is a 553 ha block in the Blue Mountains, in the Murihiku Hunting Restricted Areas permit network. Elevations run from 351 m to 994 m, with a median of 632 m — lowland / foothill country with no bushline.

This is classic Blue Mountains terrain — beech forest, regenerating scrub and farmland edges across rolling hills. The block leans north, so the slopes catch good sun and animals tend to work the warm sidles. Country is small enough that a single party can cover most of it on foot.

Game on the permit is fallow deer and wild pig. The Blue Mountains carry one of southern Otago's better public-land fallow herds and Westwood gives controlled access to that population.
