Taieri Gorge
Taieri Gorge is a small 293 ha RHA in the Coastal Otago north of the Catlins permit area, in the gorge country inland from Dunedin. Elevations run from 20 m to 282 m, with a median of 136 m — lowland / foothill country with no bushline.
This is a steep-sided river-gorge block, leaning north-west — slopes drop into the Taieri with bluffs and short open faces between bush and scrub. The aspect catches afternoon sun and the country is small enough to cover on foot in a day trip.
Game on the permit is wild goat and wild pig. The gorge country is classic goat habitat — bluff sidles and open faces above broken ground — and pigs work the bush margins.
