Rankleburn - Blue Mountains
Rankleburn is a 954 ha block in the Blue Mountains, sitting in the Murihiku Hunting Restricted Areas permit network. Elevations run from 157 m to 741 m, with a median of 326 m — lowland / foothill country with no bushline.
This is classic Blue Mountains country: beech forest, regenerating scrub and farmland edges across rolling hills. The block leans south-east, so morning sun catches the dominant faces early and animals tend to move through the warm sidles. Country is small enough to cover on foot over a long weekend.
Game on the permit is fallow deer and wild pig. The Blue Mountains hold one of southern Otago's better fallow herds on public land, and Rankleburn gives controlled access to it.
