Rangitata/Potts confluence

Ordinary258 haPermit: Permitted

The Rangitata/Potts confluence block is a small 258-hectare riverbed and terrace block at the meeting of the Rangitata and Potts rivers in mid Canterbury. Elevations are remarkably uniform — running only from 483 m to 505 m with a median of 494 m — so this is true valley-floor lowland country, all well below the bushline.

The block leans south-east-facing, with more than half of its surface in south-east aspect alongside east and south. Expect braided shingle, matagouri, willow and grass terraces rather than bush or tops country.

Two species are listed: chamois and wild pig. The small footprint and easy terrain suit short day stalks for pigs in the cover and the occasional chamois moving down off the surrounding ranges.
