Peak Hill
Peak Hill is a small 628 hectare Canterbury block of foothill and lower tussock country. Elevations run from 506 m up to 1,238 m, with a median elevation of 871 m — almost all of the block sits below the bushline, with only 1% climbing above 1,200 m. This is lowland and foothill country rather than alpine terrain.
The block is dominated by north-east-facing slopes, with a meaningful share of south, south-west and north aspects. The leaning north-east aspect means sun on the country for much of the day, which warms up the faces and tends to push animals onto shaded sidles by mid-morning.
Game on the permit is restricted to chamois and wild pig. With its compact size and modest elevation, this is a short-trip block rather than a multi-day commitment.
