Huntahr NZ

Huntahr NZ is Snow Hewetson's tahr and chamois guiding operation, based in the Wairau Valley near Blenheim in Marlborough. Snow runs tahr and chamois hunts in the Southern Alps alongside red stag packages on Otago's Hawea Station, giving clients a choice between high-alpine stalking for mountain species and river-flat estate-style hunting for red deer on private land.

Snow's guiding philosophy centres on the personal experience: showing hunters country they couldn't find without a guide, pushing their physical boundaries and creating memories beyond the trophy itself. Tahr hunting in particular is a technically demanding pursuit that rewards hunters who are prepared to work for the experience, and Snow's operation is pitched at clients who understand and want that challenge.

The Wairau Valley base gives good access to the eastern face of the Nelson Lakes mountains and the upper Wairau watershed — tahr and chamois country that is less heavily hunted than the more accessible Mackenzie Basin and Arthur's Pass areas further south. Blenheim airport is the closest gateway, with connecting flights from both Auckland and Christchurch.
