Remutaka Forest Park
Remutaka Forest Park is an 18,424 ha block of Wellington bush hill country sitting just east of the city. Elevations run from about 2 m near the coast up to 928 m on the upper ridges, with the median ground around 388 m, so the park sits in lowland to mid-altitude country — all below the bushline.
Aspect leans east, with strong shares also on south-east, south and west faces. Country here is classic Remutaka — steep bush spurs, stream-cut faces and broken sidles dropping off the main range, with the upper ridges still bush-clad rather than open tops.
Game on the permit includes red deer, wild goat and wild pig. With genuine bush hunting inside an hour or two of Wellington, the park is a popular option for hunters working short trips out of the city.
