Recreational Backcountry Pilots Association
The Recreational Backcountry Pilots Association (RBPA) is an incorporated society established in 2012 that holds a nationwide DOC fixed-wing landing concession on behalf of its private-pilot members. Rather than being a commercial operator, it acts as an umbrella access body so recreational pilots can land at remote conservation-estate airstrips under one set of rules.
Access is by annual subscription, and members must comply with the concession's operating conditions, including short-strip skills, seasonal closures and per-strip use limits. The RBPA is run by a committee of experienced backcountry pilots and works alongside DOC, AOPA NZ and conservation stakeholders.
